On this last day of school I want to wish you all a very Happy and Blessed Easter. The time is going so fast, and the children are looking forward to a break from school and spending some quality time outdoors.
The sixth grade did a wonderful job on the play and I, for one, am still singing the Oompa-Loompa song. Congratulations to Mrs. Gomez and to all who made Willie Wonka so memorable.
In math we continue our study of geometry, social studies has reached the Middle Ages, and in science our study of astronomy brings us ever-closer to our field trip to the planetarium.
Again, have a great holiday. Pat Dalsin
Religion-We begin Chapter 12 upon return. Having learned how Saul became Israel’s first anointed king and how King David transformed Israel, we will now learn about the reign of King Solomon.
English-The students will continue their study of verbs, verb phrases, tenses and various parts of the verbs.
Vocabulary-Students will continue their study in their vocab books on Unit 11. For the next few weeks, they will be introduced a lesson on Monday with a test on Friday of the same week. Plan ahead.
Research paper-only a couple parts left which will be explained and shown after Easter vacation. Their paper should be completed tentatively by the end of April, hopefully sooner. Please read your child’s paper for “sense.”
The holiest time of our faith is coming to an end. Take time to reflect upon Our Lord’s kindness and sacrifice. I pray, as I always do, that your Easter is resful, rewarding, and refreshing. No matter what your plans, spend them with family somehow-family is so very important. HAPPY EASTER!!! Mrs. Bialas

HAPPY SPRING! Or summer…or whatever the season is that we are in right now. At first it was delightful to not be dealing with snow and cold, but now it’s getting a little spooky. It’s way too early to be needing the fans on in the classrooms. I wonder what May and June will bring.
This is always an exciting time of the year, with the play coming up soon, and the preparations for the Easter holiday, March Madness, and baseball weather. Sometimes it is difficult to maintain our focus on academics. However, we have an entire quarter in which to accomplish a great deal academically.
In math, students did very well with fractions, and now we have been working on geometry skills, including lines, rays, segments, angles and triangles. The classes seem to enjoy the change of pace and are performing well.
In social studies, we continue our study of the early civilizations, but we are gradually moving closer to modern times. Our study of Medieval Europe includes knights and the Crusades which students always find interesting.
In science, we have begun exploring the universe in Astronomy. Our unit will include lab work with Mrs. Pauly, and it will culminate with our field trip to the Adler Planetarium on May 3. Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to chaperone. Unfortunately, we cannot take everyone, but Mrs. Bialas and I will draw names from those who have volunteered. We will let you know as soon as possible so that you can make your plans. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you.

Reading- we are continuing the novel, Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, (ROT). The students have become quite aware of the hardships African-Americans of all ages had to endure at the time of the Great Depression. We will be venturing into Chapter 5.
Vocabulary-the students have completed Unit 9. Nex week they will begin the three unit review (7-9) and probably have their test within the next two weeks.
English/Writing-though they began verbs, English has been put on the back burner due to their research paper. They will complete their thesis (focus)statements and will learn how to form an outline. The outline is based on their thesis statement-very important!
Religion-if you were not at the presentation of the Stations of the Cross by the sixth grade, they did a beautiful job. The readers were terriffic and the remaining sixth graders were highly supportive in their responses.
In religion class, we are still dealing with the new leaders of Samuel, Saul, and David. Also, we continue our meditation between our reatreat time and our daily devotions.
HAPPY SPRING !!
