The Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades are working on Pillow Polo. What we are concentrating on is ball and stick control. 1st and 2nd grades will get a chance to play games to use all the skills. Kindergarten is really working hard on passing a ball with a partner.
The next unit we will start is Fitness. We will be working on some basic exercises to try to stay healthy.
The 3rd-8th grade are working on Floor Hockey. We are working on skills to improve game play. This year with the Winter Olympics we will be having a tournament with the hockey teams. Then we will see who will win a Gold, Silver, Bronze or Copper medals.

The tests are Curl-ups (sit-ups), Push-ups, Sit and Reach, Shuttle Run, and Mile Run. Each test is measured by gender and age. If you have any questions, you may go to www.presidentschallenge.org

• Kindergarten please remember to wear gym shoes for class.
A school-wide volleyball game involving all grade levels (1st-8th). Student council representatives and officers will help organize and run the activity. The game will start at 9:10 with 1st grade and will have reporters announcing the score and highlights during lunchtime. Each grade will play its part of the game for one half-hour. Each grade builds on the score left to them by the previous grade.
The students from one homeroom will play the students from the other homeroom for the first 15 minutes and then switch to the other students to finish. Special scorekeeping rules will be enforced to help keep the game score close.

Physical Fitness/Kickball
We have completed the Presidential physical fitness test for students in 4th-8th grades. They all did a wonderful job! I am very proud of them, as each child worked very hard to do his or her best! Many children received awards, and those who didn’t , worked hard to improve on their scores from last year. All were successful.
Presently, we are working on softball for 3rd-8th grades and kickball/tee ball for K-2nd grade. The focus in these units is sportsmanship. I am emphasizing the importance of turn-taking and teamwork. These are important concepts and will take them far, not only in athletics , but life.
Can You Believe its Summer?
Time flies when you are having fun!! Please have your children exercise and play this summer. Encourage them to ride a bike, skateboard, swim, walk, and run. Even going to the park to start a pick up game of baseball/softball or basketball is very good, too. Get the whole family involved to get out and play.
I truly enjoyed working with the children at St. Cletus. I would like to wish everyone a fun and safe summer!!
