“The more you read, the more things you will know.”  Dr. Seuss

Last Tuesday and Wednesday we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday. We read Dr. Seuss books, played games, and made a Cat in the Hat hat. We even had green eggs and ham for our snack. The majority of children ate it – and even liked it!  Theodore Seuss Geisel was one of the most creative thinkers of our time and his books have started innumerable children on the path of reading. Thank you all for sharing your family Dr. Seuss books with our classrooms.

Our theme for this month is DINOSAURS. We will explore this theme in a variety of ways. This week we are learning about the differences between plant-eaters and meat-eaters. If you have any items that we could use in our explorations these next three weeks, please send us a note. Any items that come to school should be labeled with your child’s name if at all possible.

Our alphabet letter for this week is /r/. Take some time to look for words that start with that sound. You will be amazed how many words your children can find.  They come to school each day with suggestions for our word lists.

Our message during this season of Lent is one of following Jesus. We are making chains of love in our classrooms. Whenever someone acts the way Jesus would act – being kind, helping a friend, sharing, showing love, being generous – we write their name on one link and add it to our chain. You will be proud to know our chains are getting longer and longer.

Spring is coming – we can feel it in the air – and in our daily weather observations more and more days are sunny.  We have begun to go out more each week. Please continue to send your children with hats and gloves or mittens. Even though the weather is a little warmer, their hands and heads still get cold. They love running and we are encouraging that activity. They all need plenty of physical exercise.

Preschool: February 22

This week we will continue our unit on Animals in Winter.  We will discuss the different ways animals spend winter.  Some of them hibernate, adapt and migrate.  On Thursday, Feb. 25 and Friday, Feb. 26 we will have a hibernation party.  The children may wear their pajamas to school and bring their favorite teddy bear.

In Religion, we have entered the Lenten Season.  We went to Mass on Ash Wednesday and received ashes.  During this season we will focus on doing good deeds to be more like Jesus.  We will be making a chain to display all of our good deeds in school.

In library we have started reading Dr. Seuss books and in computer lab we are playing  Dr. Seuss games. We will celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2 and 3.  We will have Green Eggs and Ham for snack.  If you have a book that you would like to share with the class you may bring it to school on these days.
